Christmas Bakes: Grace's Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Each year at Angel we enjoy bringing the spirit of Christmas to life by sharing some of our team's most treasured holiday recipes with our community.

This week we're kicking off the festive baking with Grace's Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. These decadent, dark, cake-like cookies are easy to whip up (great for the kids!), but make a big impact with their unique crinkle look.

  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup icing sugar

In your mixer (or by hand) beat together the cocoa powder, sugar and vegetable oil until it makes a gritty dough. Beat in the eggs once at a time and then the vanilla. 

Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and instant coffee and mix on low until just combined. Chill the dough for 2-3 hours.

Roll the dough into 3cm balls, then drop them into a bowl with the icing sugar in and toss to cover. Place the balls onto a lined baking sheet, and cook at 180°C for 10 to 12 minutes.
