Grace's Nostalgic British Flapjacks
This week’s bake is a little taste of where Grace comes from.
These classic chewy British flapjacks were a staple of her childhood - simple, golden and buttery oat slices that still bring back memories of home. Grace made a batch for the Angel Delivery team this week as a way of sharing a little piece of her childhood with them.
Made with just a handful of everyday ingredients, they’re wonderfully easy to put together and perfect for filling the tins.
We hope they bring the same warmth and nostalgia to your kitchen too.
Ingredients
- 250g rolled oats
- 125g butter
- 125g golden syrup
- 100g light brown sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Dark chocolate (optional)
Method
Heat oven to 180degrees or 160 degrees fanbake, and grease and line a 20cm tin.
In a pan melt together the butter, syrup and sugar over a low heat until smooth.
Remove from the heat and stir in the oats until coated.
Press the mixture firmly into the tin, using a spoon to compact it down.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden at the edges.
Optional: drizzle melted chocolate over the top.
Cool before cutting.
